Denver Edges Air Force In Final Meet
March 17, 2002 The Denver Pioneers edged by the Falcons, 195.625 - 195.025, during Sunday's women's gymnastics meet in the Cadet Gymnasium's West Gym. The loss marked Air Force's final meet of the regular season as the Falcons prepare to host the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, March 22-23. C2C (Jr.) Jennifer Dougherty and C4C (Fr.) Jessa Liegl finished third and fourth in the all-around competition, scoring a 39.125 and a 38.550 respectively, followed by C2C Kimberly Broughton with a 38.350, C1C (Sr.) Bethany Stott (38.050), and C1C Courtney Hamrick (29.325). Broughton was the top Air Force finisher on bars, securing third place with 9.825, with Dougherty, Hamrick and C2C Allison Todd tying for fifth with a 9.775. Stott tied for first on beam with 9.875follwoed by Dougherty, Hamrick, Broughton and Liegl who finished fourth (9.800), fifth (9.775), sixth (9.750), and seventh (9.725). Dougherty and C3C (So.) Erin Maguire tied for third on floor with a 9.850.
Air Force is gears up for its post-season as it prepares to host the MPSF Championships next weekend. The men's team and all-around competition begins Friday evening, March 22 at 7 p.m. with the universities of Oklahoma, Nebraska, Stanford, Cal Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, Sacramento State, and San Jose State all in attendance. The competition continues Saturday afternoon with the men's event finals at 1 p.m., followed by the women's team, all-around and event finals at 7 p.m.
