The Air Force women's gymnastics team returns to the Academy for a pair of dual-meet competitions. The Falcons will host Eastern Michigan on Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the first of three consecutive meets featuring the two programs. Air Force and EMU will wrap up the weekend on Friday, Feb. 29, with another dual meet. Both meets are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., in the Cadet West Gym.
The Falcons will recognize its two seniors following the conclusion of Friday's meet. Katie Donnell and Kelly Lewis have been an integral part of the Air Force program during their four years.
BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER
Air Force and Eastern Michigan will face each other one more time during an 11-day span. The Falcons will travel to the Eagles stomping grounds on Saturday, March 8, for the Eagle Invitational. This time, however, it will be a five-team meet. In addition to Air Force and Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Illinois State and Brown will be competing at the meet.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Eastern Michigan was picked to defend is Mid-American Conference title in the preseason coaches' poll. They are currently 5-3 on the season and 3-1 in MAC action. The Eagles, who are spending their spring break in Colorado, defeated Ball State (192.550-189.800) on Feb. 22.
LAST TIME OUT
Abigail Rogers earned a pair of first-place finishes, as Air Force dropped a 187.250-186.550 decision to Seattle-Pacific on Feb. 23. Rogers paced the Falcons with winning marks on the floor exercise (9.725) and all-around (38.325). In addition, Rogers also led the Falcons on the uneven bars and balance beam. She tallied a season-best score of 9.600 on the uneven bars and a 9.525 on the beam to finish third in both events.
Air Force senior Katie Donnell attended the La Cueva High School and competed at Albuquerque Gymnastics School - just like Eastern Michigan freshman Heather Qualls.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
Air Force joins Eastern Michigan on its return trip to Ypsilanti, Mich., for the Eagle Invitational on Saturday, March 8. The Falcons will face EMU, as well as Northern Illinois, Illinois State and Brown.
