WOODLAND, Calif. - Air Force freshman Jessica Wallander was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced today (Feb. 21). It is the second straight week that an Air Force gymnast has earned the conference's weekly award.
Wallander won the vault and claimed the team's top finishes on the floor exercise and uneven bar, pacing the Falcons to a win over league-leader UC Davis (191.625-190.925) on Saturday, Feb. 18. Wallander scored a 9.800 to win the vault, while taking second on the floor exercise with a career-best 9.750. She also tied for second with teammate Linnaea Hance on the uneven bars with a score of 9.700.
Her scores helped the Falcons to a season-high team score of 191.625 and the program's first victory over the Aggies since March 22, 2003. Wallander joined Feb. 14 honoree Katie Hawthorne as Air Force recipients of the MPSF Gymnast of the Week award this season.
Air Force will travel to Piscataway, N.J., for a quad meet with Bridgeport, Eastern Michigan and host Rutgers on Saturday, Feb. 25.
