WOODLAND, Calif. – After a stellar return to the Air Force lineup last week, Tyler Davis was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Freshman of the Week this afternoon (Feb. 20). It is the second conference award of the year for the Rowlett, Texas, native.
Davis, who missed the previous two meets with injury, scored a career-best 9.900 to share the event title on the floor exercise during the Falcons’ home meet with UC Davis on Feb. 17. Tied for the third-highest floor score in program history, it was the first score of 9.900-or-higher on that event in more than 13 years – and just the second 9.900-or-higher score on any event since the end of the 2004 season. Davis, who improve her score by 0.050 during the meet, paced Air Force to a season-best team score of 48.975 on the floor exercise and helped the Falcons to their third-highest total of the season (193.300).
It is the second conference award of the season for Davis, who also collected the Freshman of the Week award following the season opener. With today’s honor, she becomes the second Air Force gymnast to garner multiple awards from the MPSF this season. In all, the Falcons have collected eight total conference awards this season.
Air Force closes out a three-week homestand this Saturday (Feb. 24), when it hosts New Hampshire and Temple at 6:00 p.m., inside Cadet West Gym.
