WOODLAND, Calif. - Air Force sophomore Katie Hawthorne was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced today (Feb. 14). It is the first such award for the native of Forney, Texas, and is the first by an Air Force gymnast this season.
Hawthorne set or matched career-best scores in all four events, as well as the all-around, to lead the Falcons to a road victory at conference opponent Alaska-Anchorage on Sunday (Feb. 12) afternoon. She won the all-around (38.550) and tied for first on the uneven bars (9.725) with teammate Linnaea Hance. Hawthorne was also the Falcons' top performer on the floor exercise, as she tied for second with a 9.600. In addition, she tied for second on the balance beam with a score of 9.700 and scored a career-best 9.5525 the vault.
She shared the league's weekly award with UC Davis' Katie Yamamura.
After spending the first five weeks of the season on the road, Air Force opens the home portion of its schedule on Saturday, Feb. 18, hosting UC Davis at 2 p.m.
