WOODLAND, Calif. - Air Force sophomore Jessica Wallander was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced this evening (Feb. 12). It is the second career honor from the MPSF for the Dallas, Texas, native.
Highlighted by a victory on the floor exercise, Wallander finished among the top three in each of her events during the Falcons' dual meet at Utah State last Friday (Feb. 8). The sophomore scored a career-best 9.800 to win the floor, while also adding a personal-best tally of 9.750 to take second on the uneven bars and a season-best score of 9.800 to finish third on the vault.
Her win on the floor exercise paced Air Force to four of the top-five scores on that event, as the squad collected a season-high team total of 48.700. She also helped the Falcons record their second-highest team total of the year - and third-highest since 2007 - with a combined mark of 193.200.
The Falcons return to the Academy this Saturday (Feb. 16), when they host Lindenwood and New Hampshire at 6 p.m., inside Cadet West Gym.
