Iwaniec and Robison Lead Air Force at Tri-Meet
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- Claiming three of the four individual event titles, junior Sashonna Iwaniec and senior Lauren Robison led the Air Force women's gymnastics team to a second-place finish at the Academy on Sunday, Feb. 12. The Falcons, posting a season-high 183.100, finished second behind meet winner Centenary (185.750), while Wisconsin-Stout rounded out the field with a third-place score of 177.550.
Iwaniec posted the afternoon's top finish on the vault and balance beam, collecting respective scores of 9.625 and 9.650. With a score of 9.400 on the floor exercise, Iwaniec also earned the Falcons' second-best finish on that event, picking up a sixth-place finish. Robison, who won the uneven bars and all-around during Friday night's meet, repeated both honors this afternoon. The senior captain dominated the bars, with a 9.550 routine -- a score that was 0.125 better than anyone else in the field. Robison, who also finished third on the vault (9.550) and beam (9.525), picked up her second all-around title of the season with an impressive combined total of 38.100. That mark distanced Robison from the runner-up by .725 points. Junior Christine Powers tallied the Falcons' second-best score on the uneven bars, with a score of 9.200 to finish fourth. Sophomore Katie Donnell finished fifth in the all-around with a score of 35.925. After enjoying a weekend at home, Air Force heads back out on the road for a tri-meet at Denver on Saturday, Feb. 18. The Falcons will face off with the 15th-ranked Pioneers for the second time in three weeks, while also matching up against Ohio State. Action is slated to begin at 4 p.m., in the Hamilton Gym on the campus of DU.
