Falcons Return to Academy to Host Bridgeport

    After two weeks of competing on the road, the Air Force women's gymnastics team returns to the Academy on Saturday, Feb. 12, when it hosts the University of Bridgeport for its fourth dual meet of the season and its second home competition. Air Force's meet with the Purple Knights is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the Cadet West Gymnasium.

    HOME SWEET HOME
    Saturday's match is the second of seven home competitions for the Falcons in 2011. Air Force will also welcome Eastern Michigan (March 2, March 5) and Denver (March 14) to the Academy during the regular season, before hosting the MPSF Championships (March 19) and USAG Championships (April 8-10).

    SCOUTING THE PURPLE KNIGHTS
    The Purple Knights are coming off of their best meet of the season on Feb. 6, as they tallied a season-best team score of 192.250 at the Penn State Quadrangular. Bridgeport has surpassed the 190-point mark in four of five meets this season. Monica Mesalles has recorded the highest scores of the season on the vault and floor exercise, earning 9.850 marks on both events. Emily Repko has surpassed that mark on the balance beam, tallying a mark of 9.875.

    CONFERENCE ROUNDUP
    Air Force continues to rank second in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, with an average score of 189.000. Individually, Brittany Dutton is ranked second on the vault with a 9.656 average. She is also ranked third in the all-around (38.000 average) and fifth on the uneven bars (9.545 average). Linnaea Hance is ranked sixth in the combined event, with an average total of 37.700.

    HANCE WINS THE ALL-AROUND AT UC DAVIS
    Linnaea Hance won her first collegiate all-around title at UC Davis on Feb. 4. With a combined score of 38.225, Hance improved her overall total by more than one point to win the all-around. In addition to her all-around win, Hance earned a top-three finish on the uneven bars and paced the Falcons on the balance beam. The freshman matched her career-best score on the uneven bars at 9.725 to finish third, while placing fourth on the balance beam (9.575).

    DUTTON CLAIMS ANOTHER TITLE
    Team captain Brittany Dutton won the uneven bars at UC Davis with a career-best matching score of 9.775. Dutton also recorded the Falcons' top finishes on the vault (9.650, second tie) and floor exercise (9.625, fourth tie), while placing third in the all-around with a combined score of 38.050.

    FALCONS FALL TO LEAGUE LEADER
    Air Force fell to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation leader UC Davis by a 192.100-188.950 margin on Feb. 4 on the Aggies' home floor. The Falcons shined on the uneven bars, posted a season-high total of 48.175. Air Force also recorded the top three scores of the season on that event. Brittany Dutton paced the squad with her second 9.775 performance of the season, while Linnaea Hance recorded a career-high 9.725 and Samantha Jones added a mark of 9.650.

    WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
    Air Force heads back out on the road next weekend (Saturday, Feb. 19), when it travels to Ypsilanti, Mich., for a dual meet with Eastern Michigan. It will be the first of three meetings between the Falcons and the Eagles, as EMU travels to the Academy in early March for a pair of dual meets.
