WOODLAND, Calif. - Air Force gymnast Sarah Neumann was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday, Feb. 4. It is the first career honor for the native of Corcoran, Minn.
Neumann has shined in her first competitive season with the Falcons, after missing her freshman year rehabbing an ACL reconstruction. During the Falcons' home opener on Saturday, Feb. 1, Neumann posted career-high marks on the balance beam (9.775) and floor exercise (9.725), while making her collegiate debut on the uneven bars (9.500). The sophomore finished second on the beam and tied for third on the floor, helping Air Force to its highest score of the season (192.875), a second-place team finish and a victory over conference opponent Seattle Pacific.
She shared the weekly MPSF awards with UC Davis' Tiana Montell (Gymnast of the Week) and Stephanie Stamates (Specialist of the Week).
The Falcons remain at the Academy this Saturday (Feb. 8), when they host the 10th-ranked Auburn at 5 p.m., in Cadet Center Gym.
