Each week during the 2014 season, GoAirForceFalcons.com will feature a member of the Air Force women's gymnastics team. This week, the spotlight is on junior Lindsay Ebel. The native of Highlands Ranch, Colo., returned to the lineup last Saturday after illness sidelined her for the entire 2013 season.
How did you get started in gymnastics?
My best friend when I was 7 did gymnastics and I wanted to do it with her.
Who are your biggest fans?
My parents, boyfriend, and Jen Larson
What challenge do you find in gymnastics that you don¡¦t find in any other sport?
I believe gymnastics requires the most mental toughness.
What do you like best about gymnastics?
My teammates and the adrenaline rush form new skills and competitions.
What is your favorite event and why?
Beam and Bars, beam for the mental challenge and bars because I think swinging around is fun!
Do you have any pre-meet rituals?
I do my hair the same way, that's about it.
For returners: What has been your favorite road trip?
My favorite was Alaska, because we had the opportunity to learn about dog sledding and see moose!
What is your advice for young gymnasts?
Have fun and confidence is key!
What drew you to the Air Force women's gymnastics team?
The girls on the team and their dedication.
What are you most excited about for the upcoming season?
To get back out there and for the team to kick butt!
Describe your personality in two words
Bubbly and personable
ON THE ACADEMY...
Who are the biggest influences in your life and why?
My boyfriend, he is one of the strongest people I know. My parents, of course, and my coaches ... how can they not be, they encourage me to be the best I can be every day!
How do you balance your athletics, academics and military duties?
Not easily, attitude is everything and prioritize.
Who is your favorite non-gymnast athlete(s) at the Academy?
Jason Mossing, he always has an amazing attitude!
What is your favorite class?
I really enjoy my management classes.
Who is your favorite professor/AOC/etc.?
My AMTs and AOC have supported me the most in my academy career.
What is your favorite place on the Academy grounds?
What were your first thoughts of the Academy?
The school was so incredible I couldn¡¦t believe I had the opportunity to go there.
What is your favorite thing about USAFA?
My best friends here.
What has been the hardest thing about the Academy?
Balancing academics, military, and gymnastics.
What was your most memorable "welcome to college" moment?
Basic ... does that count?
When you were a little kid, what did you want to be when you grow up?
I thought about being a lawyer.
What is one thing that you just can't live without?
If you had $1,000,000, what would you do?
Use it to give back to my family and friends that have been there for me.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
What is one song that you¡¦re tired of hearing?
"I Like to Move It" on the Madagascar movie soundtrack ... my little brother plays it way too much.
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
What was your first job?
A Birthday party hostess at my gymnastics facility in high school.
If you had a theme song, what would it be?
Stand by Rascal Flats.
If you could be on any TV show, what would it be?
Friends, I think it would be a blast.
