Doug Day to be Inducted into Minnesota Gymnastics Hall of Fame

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Air Force women's gymnastics head coach Doug Day will be inducted into the University of Minnesota Men's and Women's Gymnastics Hall of Fame this Friday (Jan 10), during the Minnesota Gymnastics Foundation's annual banquet in Minneapolis.
Day, who spent nine years as an assistant coach with the Minnesota women's team (1997-2006), helped the Gophers' team to two Big Ten titles (1998, 2006) and one team appearance at the NCAA Championships (2002). In addition, five Gophers won individual conference titles, two were named Big Ten Gymnast of the Year, two earned regional championship titles, two claimed All-America honors and four individually qualified for the NCAA Championships.
He will be joined in the Hall of Fame's Class of 2014 by former Minnesota women's athletic director Chris Voelz, former men's gymnast Jeff LaFluer and seven-year-old Gavin Pierson, who is slated to receive the foundation's Abby Szott Courage Award.
Air Force opens the 2014 campaign the following day (Jan. 11) during a triangular meet with the 14th-ranked Gophers and Lindenwood at Minnesota's Sports Pavilion.
