USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force women's gymnastics team kicked off the upcoming season with a strong showing during the annual intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, Dec. 1. Backed by three first-place finishes, the Silver Squad defeated the Blue Team by a 167.825-166-350 margin.
With two event titles, junior Katie Hawthorne paced the Silver side of the Falcons' roster, winning the balance beam (9.650) and floor exercise (9.800). Sophomore Jessica Wallander also collected a first-place score for the Silver Squad, tallying a 9.775 to win the vault.
In addition to her win on the vault, Wallander finished second on the floor exercise with a 9.750. The Silver Squad also earned top-three finishes from sophomore Alexandra Stych scored a 9.500 to finish second on the uneven bars, while junior Jessica Hanner and freshman Ryann Anderson tied for third on the balance beam with matching marks of 9.550.
Representing the Blue Team, junior Linnaea Hance claimed the remaining event title, as she took first on the uneven bars with a score of 9.700. Hance also tied for the Blue lead on the vault and floor exercise. The junior also tied for the Blue lead on the vault and floor exercise. She scored a 9.700 to tie for second on the vault with sophomore Kim McRobbie, while earning the same mark on the floor exercise to tie for third on that event with classmate Jen Larsen.
Larsen also earned a top-three finish on the vault (9.600) and uneven bars (9.400), while the Blue Team earned an additional top-three finish from freshman Ali Ables, who scored a 9.600 to take second on the balance beam.

The Falcons officially open the season on Saturday, Jan. 12, when they travel to Denver, Colo., for a dual meet with the Pioneers.
