BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - With a combined score of 191.075 and seven top-12 finishes, the Air Force women's gymnastics team finished fourth in the team finals of the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships on Friday, April 13, in Bridgeport, Conn.
Host Bridgeport won its fourth straight title with a score of 195.575, while Texas Woman's placed second with a 193.700. Pennsylvania finished third with a 193.475 and Air Force rounded out the four-team final with a 191.075.
Freshman Jessica Wallander posted the Falcons' best finish of the day, scoring a career-best matching mark of 9.825 to tie for third on the vault.
The Falcons placed three gymnasts in the top half of the 24-member field on the balance beam. Sophomore Jessica Hanner scored a 9.725 to finish seventh, while classmates Emily Bucher and Linnaea Hance placed ninth (season-best 9.700) and 10th (9.675), respectively.
Senior Samantha Jones finished 10th on the uneven bars with a 9.625, while Wallander placed 12th with a 9.550. Hance rounded out the Falcons' event leaders with a career-best 9.800 on the floor exercise to finish 11th.
The USAG Collegiate National Championship team finals will conclude tomorrow (Saturday, April 14) afternoon with the individual event finals. The Falcons will be represented by Hanner (balance beam), Alexandra Stych (floor exercise) and Wallander (floor exercise) in the 1 p.m. finals at Hubbell Gymnasium.
