Falcons Wrap Up Competition at NCAA Regionals

    COLUMBUS, Ohio - Four members of the Air Force women's gymnastics team wrapped up competition at the 2013 NCAA Regional Championships on Saturday, April 6, in Columbus, Ohio. Sophomore Jessica Wallander posted the quartet's best finish of the night, tying for 13th on the vault.

    Competing as an individual event specialist, Wallander scored a 9.825 to tie for 13th on the vault. The sophomore also scored a 9.700 on the floor exercise (33rd-tied) and a 9.575 on the uneven bars (34th-tie) during the regional competition.

    A trio of Air Force juniors competed in the all-around at St. John's Arena, with Jen Larsen tallying the top finish with a 14th-place score of 38.550. Her placement in the all-around standings is tied with the 14th-place finish Linnaea Hance tallied last year for the program's best regional finish since 2005. Katie Hawthorne tallied a 38.500 to finish 15th, while Hance scored a 37.925 to take 16th.

    Contributing to Larsen's score was a 9.650 on the vault (41st), a 9.575 on the uneven bars (34th-tie), a 9.625 on the balance beam (35th) and a 9.700 on the floor exercise, as she tied with Wallander for 33rd. Hawthorne collected her highest scores of the day (9.650) on the uneven bars (32nd-tie) and the floor exercise (37th), while adding 9.600 marks on both the vault (42nd) and balance beam (36th). Hance recorded a 32nd-place tie on the vault (9.725), while finishing 36th on the floor exercise (9.675), 38th on the uneven bars (9.475) and 41st on the balance beam (9.050).

    Air Force closes out the 2013 season next weekend (April 26-28), when it travels to Shreveport, La., for the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships.
