LINCOLN, Neb. -- Backed by a 10th-place finish in the all-around from senior Kara Witgen, 10 members of the Air Force women's gymnastics team wrapped up action at the NCAA Regional Championships this evening (April 1) in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Witgen, who scored a 38.525 to register the Falcons' highest regional all-around finish since 2002, placed within the top half of the 42-gymnast field in two events. The senior co-captain earned a top-20 finish on the floor exercise (17th, 9.775), while tying for 21st on the balance beam (9.750). Witgen also led the Falcons with a 32nd-place finish on the vault (9.700).
Freshman Anna Salamone rounded out Air Force's list of event leaders, as she tied for 33rd on the uneven bars with a score of 9.700.
Salamone was the Falcons' No. 2 vaulter (36th) with a score of 9.675, while sophomore Mariana Murphy used the same score to post the squad's second-highest tally on the uneven bars (35th). Fellow sophomore Brittney Reed joined Witgen as a top-30 finisher, after scoring a 9.650 to tie for 29th on the balance beam and junior Casey Bell earned the Falcons' third-highest event score of the night (9.725) to finish 31st on the floor exercise.
The Falcons return to action next weekend (April 7-9), when they travel to Seattle, Wash., for the 2017 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships.
