YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Air Force women's gymnastics team tallied a combined score of 191.975 to finish third at the Eagle Invitational on Saturday, March 9, in Ypsilanti, Mich. The score marks the seventh straight meet where the Falcons have broken the 191-point mark this season.
Kent State, ranked 17th in the latest GymInfo National Rankings, won the four-team meet with a score of 195.050. Host Eastern Michigan finished second with a 194.575, while Air Force used its final rotation to overtake Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe Alaska-Anchorage for third (191.975-191.650).
Sophomore Jessica Wallander paced the Falcons on the vault with a season-best matching mark of 9.800, while juniors Jen Larsen (career-best 9.775) and Linnaea Hance (9.700) also broke the 9.7-point mark. The same trio posted the Falcons' top three scores on the uneven bars, as Hance led the way with a 9.750 and the duo of Larsen and Wallander added matching scores of 9.700.
Wallander posted one of the Falcons' best scores on the floor exercise, as she and freshman Shannen Kelly recorded matching marks of 9.725. Junior Katie Hawthorne paced the team on the balance beam with a score of 9.650.
Due to several scorekeeping errors, individual event placements are not currently available (an update will be made at GoAirForceFalcons.com once the corrected results are received).
The Falcons have a quick turnaround, returning to the Academy on Monday (March 11) for a dual meet with No. 13 Denver. Air Force's final home meet of the 2013 campaign is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
