Falcons Tally Season-High Score at UC-Davis

    DAVIS, Calif. - Backed by a trio of top-five finishes, the Air Force women's gymnastics team posted its best team score of the season (185.575) in a dual-meet rematch at Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe UC-Davis on Friday, Feb. 16. However, despite its best score of the season, the Falcons fell to the host Aggies by a 192.300-185.575 margin.

     

    Tallying a team total of 47.650 on the floor exercise, Air Force improved its season-high score in that event by nearly a point. In addition, its scores on the vault (47.125) and uneven bars (45.750) were the second-best combined score to date. The Falcons' team score bested the previous mark of 185.425 that they set two weeks ago in the first meet with the Aggies.

     

    The Falcons' best finishes of the night came from a freshman and a senior.

     

    Competing on the balance beam for the first time since the season-opening meet at Denver, freshman Michelle Denise set a career-best 9.600 on the apparatus to take third. That score is the third-best beam total of any team member this season.


     

     

     

    Senior Sashonna Iwaniec also picked up a third-place finish, as she scored a 9.400 on the uneven bars. In addition, Iwaniec led the team on the vault, posting a score of 9.650. Sophomore Abigail Rogers earned a top-five finish on the uneven bars, placing fourth with a mark of 9.300. Rogers also earned the Falcons' best total on the floor exercise, tallying a 9.675 to place sixth.

     

    Air Force set its two highest all-around totals to date. In just her second meet as an all-arounder, Denise tallied a career-best 37.725 to finish second. With a combined score of 37.650, Rogers topped her previous personal-best score by .375 to take third.

     

    The Falcons, in the middle of a four-week road trip, continue on the road next week as they travel to Western Michigan on Saturday, Feb. 24 for a 1 p.m.
