Air Force Drops Close Meet to MPSF Leader UC-Davis

    USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Backed by a sweep of the top-three scores on the floor exercise, the Air Force women's gymnastics team posted a season-high score on that event during a close dual-meet loss to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation leader, UC-Davis, on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Academy's Cadet West Gym.

    The Falcons tallied a team total of 47.650 on the floor, improving its top mark by nearly a half-point. Overall, Air Force accounted for a score of 186.775. It's third-highest total of the season, it wasn't enough to overcome the Aggies' score of 188.525.

    Junior Abigail Rogers won the floor exercise with a score of 9.700, while senior Katie Donnell posted a season-best 9.625 to take second. Classmate Kelly Lewis also upped her season-best mark on the event to take third with a score of 9.575.

    Freshman Brittany Dutton paced the Falcons in two events, while finishing third in the all-around (37.400). Dutton collected a career-best score of 9.550 on the uneven bars, while tying with Lewis for the Falcons' top finish on the vault (9.500, 8th).

    Rogers and sophomore Kayla Kincade tied for second on the balance beam with matching scores of 9.475. Freshman Lisa Wong picked up a fourth-place (tie) finish on the beam, after garnering a score of 9.425. Air Force also earned a top-five score on the bars from sophomore Michelle Denise, who earned a 9.500 to tie for fourth.

     

     

    The Falcons travel to Seattle, Wash., next Saturday (Feb. 23) for a conference match-up against Seattle-Pacific. Action is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
