Abbey Rogers Leads Falcons to Victory over Alaska-Anchorage
Feb. 2, 2009
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Senior Abbey Rogers posted a pair of career-high scores, as the Air Force women's gymnastics team picked up a 190.925-187.400 victory over Alaska-Anchorage on Monday, Feb. 2, at the Academy's Cadet West Gym. The Falcons, who surpassed the 190-point mark for the first time this season, remain undefeated on their home floor in 2009.
Rogers was the backbone of the Falcons' success tonight, as she won the vault, uneven bars and all-around. Two of her winning scores were personal-best marks, including an impressive 38.950 in the all-around. That score is more than a point above her previous high. Rogers also tallied a personal-best mark on the uneven bars, winning that event with a score of 9.800.
The team captain also finished third on the balance beam with a team-leading, season-best 9.675 and a fourth-place score on the floor exercise (9.750).
Freshman Jenna Dudley and sophomore Brittany Dutton were the Falcons' top finishers on the floor, as they posted matching scores of 9.775 to tie for second - only .025 off of the meet winner, Alaska's Shakea Sanders.
Like her senior counterpart, Dudley set numerous career-bests in the meet, improving her totals on the vault (9.525), balance beam (9.550), floor exercise (9.775) and all-around (38.675). Dutton also bettered her personal totals on the uneven bars (9.750) and floor exercise (9.775). In addition to their team-leading second-place finishes on the floor, Dutton and Dudley also tied for third on the vault, while placing second and third, respectively, on the uneven bars.
As a team, Air Force bettered its event scores on the vault (48.125), balance beam (46.825) and floor exercise (48.450), while posting its highest total score of the season.
Air Force has a quick turnaround, as it travels to Shreveport, La., on Friday, Feb. 6, to take on Centenary.
