Falcons Claim Impressive Victory over MIT

Air Force vs. MIT - Team Results
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Backed by victories on all four events, including a top-five sweep of the uneven bars, the Air Force women's gymnastics team handily defeated MIT on Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Academy's Cadet West Gym. With a score of 188.100, the Falcons topped the Engineers (180.950) for its first victory of the year. Junior Abigail Rogers paced the Falcons with three of the four event titles. Collecting career-best scores, Rogers won the uneven bars (9.550) and floor exercise (9.850). Her bars score is a personal improvement of .200. In addition, Rogers tallied her second-best vault score of the season to win that event, while scoring a 38.025 to place second in the all-around. Sophomore Kayla Kincade won the balance beam with a score of 9.575, while freshman Brittany Dutton tied with Rogers for the top honor on the uneven bars by matching her career-best score (9.550). By tying for first, Dutton and Rogers were a part of the Falcons' sweep of the top-five spots on the bars. Senior Katie Donnell tallied a season-best 9.500 to place third, while Kincade (career-best 9.475) and classmate Michelle Denise (9.400) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Denise, who finished fourth in the all-around with a score of 37.200, also accounted for a third-place 9.500 on the floor exercise and tied with senior Kelly Lewis and junior Mary Barrett for fourth on the vault (9.450). Dutton also placed third on the balance beam with a score of 9.500, while classmate Lisa Wong placed fourth on the floor exercise with a mark of 9.475. The victory was the first for Air Force since finishing second at a triangular meet on Feb. 12, 2006. The Falcons travel up Intrastate-25 on Saturday, Feb. 9, for a quad meet with Denver, Oklahoma and Utah State.
