Air Force Tallies 191.900 in Road Loss to TWU

    DENTON, Texas - The Air Force women's gymnastics team collected a season-high tally of 191.900 during a loss to Texas Woman's University (194.250) on Saturday, Jan. 18, in Denton, Texas. Three different Falcons paced the squad with runner-up finishes during their first dual-meet of the season.

    Backed by second-place finishes from seniors Linnaea Hance and Katie Hawthorne, the Falcons claimed three of the top-six finishes in both the balance beam and floor exercise.

    Hance, the meet's lone competitor in the all-around (37.975), recorded a career-best 9.825 to place second on the beam, while classmates Emily Bucher and Jessica Hanner finished third (career-best 9.800) and fifth (season-best 9.775), respectively All six competitors for Air Force tallied a score of at least 9.700 on that apparatus, as the Falcons amassed a team score of 48.825.

    Hawthorne scored a season-high 9.750 to earn the runner-up spot on the floor, while juniors Jessica Wallander and Alexandra Stych also placed within the top half of the field with respective fourth-place (season-best 9.700) and sixth-place (season-best 9.650) finishes.

    Air Force claimed its final runner-up finish on the vault, as Wallander placed second with a season-best score of 9.750. Hance also scored within the top six on that event, garnering a score of 9.525 to place sixth. Two Falcons also scored within the top half of the field on the uneven bars, as Hawthorne and Stych finished fourth (9.750) and sixth (9.725), respectively.

     

     

    The Falcons close out a season-opening stretch of three meets on the road next Saturday (Jan. 25), when they travel to Denver for a dual meet with the Pioneers, who are tied for 14th in this week's poll.
