Falcons Fall in Season Opener at TWU

    DENTON, Texas - The Air Force women's gymnastics team opened the 2012 season with a 191.450-188.200 loss to Texas Woman's University on Saturday, Jan. 14, in Denton, Texas. The Falcons improved their season-opening score two points over last season during its first dual meet of the season.

    Air Force claimed a trio of third-place marks in the individual events, including a tie for third on the uneven bars from senior Samantha Jones and sophomore Linnaea Hance. The pair collected matching marks of 9.550 to pace the Falcons to half of the top-six finishes in that event, as sophomore Katie Hawthorne added a sixth-place score of 9.475.

    Sophomore Jessica Hanner was the team's lone top-six finisher on the balance beam, as she tied for third with a career-best tally of 9.600. Hanner also paced the Falcons in the three-competitor all-around, taking second with a debut score of 37.325.

    Jones and freshman Jessica Wallander teamed up to pace the Falcons on both the vault and floor exercise. Jones and Wallander finished fourth (9.625) and fifth (9.575), respectively, on the vault, while swapping positions to take fifth (9.650) and sixth (9.625) on the floor exercise.

    The Falcons return to action next Sunday (Jan. 22), when they travel to Davis, Calif., to take on Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opponent UC Davis at 1 p.m.
