Air Force Duo Earn National Academic Recognition

Ryann Anderson and Joey Ching earned Scholastic All-America honors for the second straight year.


Falcons Set to Open 2013 Season at Denver

Air Force will face the Pioneers at 6 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 12.

JUNIOR YEAR | 2015: Competed in the vault during the first four meets of the season...scored a career-best 9.575 against Seattle Pacific...named to the USAG All-Academic Team.

SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2014: Competed on the vault once...scored an 8.775 at Texas Woman's University...named to the USAG All-Academic Team...also earned NACGC/W Scholastic All-America honors.

FRESHMAN YEAR | 2013: Did not compete in any team competitions...named NACGC/W Scholastic All-American.

HIGH SCHOOL | CLUB TEAM: Punahou School...AP Scholar with Distinction...member of the National Honor Society...National Merit Commended Scholar...earned awards for Excellence in English, Social Studies, and Physical Education...competed at the club level for the Kokokahi Gymnastics Team...coached by Bruce Burns and Suzie Gamble...Hawaii state champion on the balance beam (Level 10) in 2012...Hawaii state champion on the floor exercise (Level 9) in 2010...regional qualifier in 2010 (Level 9) and 2012 (Level 10)...served as team captain from 2009-2012...also served as a volunteer coach at the club.

PERSONAL: Full name is Joey Lynn Ching...daughter of Glenn and Melinda Ching...father is a 1980 graduate of the Air Force Academy...has one older sibling, Casey...majoring in political science and earning a minor in Chinese...future career plans include working in the intelligence field, with hopes of attending graduate school...served as Commander and First Sergeant for squadron during 2014-15 academic year...earned the Cadet Wing's Outstanding First Sergeant of the Year...also received the Group 1 Outstanding First Sergeant of the Year...has also served PA/CSL Clerk, MWR Clerk, Group 1 PEER NCO, Head PEER for squadron, Flight NCO and Element Leader...received Jump wings in the summer of 2013...named the Outstanding Academy Ambassador...named the C2C of the Year for squadron in 2014-15...four-time selection to the Superintendent's List for excellence in military, academic and athletic performance...also selected to the Commandant's List four times...named to the Dean's List and Athletic Director's List every semester...member of the Academy Scholars' Program...grandfather, Herbert Ching, also served in the Air Force and retired as a lieutenant colonel after 28 years of service as a personnel officer...participated in the Cadet Summer Research Program (CSRP) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California over the summer, researching current intelligence challenges in science and technology...also served as Flight Commander during the first session of Basic Cadet Training and traveled home during leave...member of Cadet Squadron 06.
