    Air Force Duo Earn National Academic Recognition

    Ryann Anderson and Joey Ching earned Scholastic All-America honors for the second straight year.


    Falcons Set to Open 2013 Season at Denver

    Air Force will face the Pioneers at 6 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 12.

    FRESHMAN | 2013: Did not compete in any team competitions.

    HIGH SCHOOL | CLUB TEAM: Punahou School...AP Scholar with Distinction...member of the National Honor Society...National Merit Commended Scholar...three-time recipient of the Excellence in English award...also received the Excellence in Social Studies award twice...earned Recognition awards for physical education and social studies as a freshman...placed second among solo performers at the Cheng and Tsui Superstar National Karaoke Competition for Chinese Language...participated in many activities within the Punahou School community, including Outdoor Education Counselor, student tour guide for the "Hui O Aloha" club, middle school tour guide trainer and coordinator, student reporter for the Punahou School website and as a tutor and teacher's aide for sixth-grade students...member of Model United Nations...worked part-time as a playground monitor for second, third and fourth-grade students and as a morning greeter for kindergarten and first-grade students...also served as an administrative assistant during Punahou Summer School...competed at the club level for the Kokokahi Gymnastics Team...coached by Bruce Burns and Suzie Gamble...Hawaii state champion on the balance beam (Level 10) in 2012...Hawaii state champion on the floor exercise (Level 9) in 2010...regional qualifier in 2010 (Level 9) and 2012 (Level 10)...served as team captain from 2009-2012...also served as a volunteer coach at the club, teaching Sunday classes for 2-4 year olds and 5-14 year-olds.

    PERSONAL: Full name is Joey Lynn Ching...daughter of Glenn and Melinda Ching...father is a 1980 graduate of the Air Force Academy...has one older sibling, Casey...majoring in political science and earning a minor in Chinese...future career plans include working in the intelligence or public affairs field...also plans to attend graduate school...served as Public Affairs Clark during the 2013 fall semester...member of the Academy Scholars' Program...grandfather, Herbert Ching, also served in the Air Force and retired as a lieutenant colonel after 28 years of service as a personnel officer...hobbies include cooking and baking (specialties are red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and snickerdoodle cookies...favorite event changes all the time, but is currently the floor exercise, because "it is a combination of music, dance and tumbling; which makes me feel powerful and artistic at the same time"...received Jump wings over the summer after participating in the AM 490 Airmanship program...also attended the Summer Space program, completed Expeditionary Survival and Evasion Training (ESET) and traveled home to spend time with family and dog, Penny...member of Cadet Squadron 17.
