On the Road...with Cherae Medina
Nov. 16, 2012
This season, members of the Air Force women's basketball team will share some of their experiences at the Academy, both on and off the court. This week, junior Cherae Medina talks about how the team is bonding in the beginning of the regular season.
This past weekend was our first big weekend of travel. It was our first regular-season game away and longest time away from the Academy. We played Northern Colorado Friday then left again Sunday for a long day of travel to Virginia. We were able to spend a lot of quality time together and get a feel of how travel will go for the rest of the season.
Getting away from school is always nice, especially with the team we have now. We get along so well off the court, it feels like a constant ab workout. I love being around these women. There was a lot of positive energy on and off the court, which I see as a very good sign for the near future. Everyone seems to have a positive attitude to start off the season, which is exciting to be around. We were able to work on some things and this week in practice we have been able to get after things that are only making us better. We learned a lot about ourselves in our games against UNC and Longwood and found some things we need to work on. We have another weekend of travel starting today as we leave to Idaho, then back at home during Thanksgiving break against Army and Navy. We would love to have your support.
In the mean time, this semester of school is finally coming to an end. It's almost time to start studying for finals. I can't wait for Thanksgiving break. It's a good time for me and the team to take a step back from our busy lives and take a breath. We have a week full of opportunity to focus on basketball and get our minds right for the rest of the season. The week off of school also gives us an awesome opportunity to hang out with each other and free time to spend with each other that we wouldn't normally have during a regular school week. We get to watch movies all week and just relax. Breaks from school are always nice.
Our next games will be against Army and Navy with a home court advantage. Come out to Clune Aarena Friday night and Monday night, the 23rd and 26th of November, and support your Falcons at 8pm and 7pm, respectively. We're jumping on the road to success and would love to have your company along the way! It's a great day to be a Falcon!
