Air Force Hosts In-State Rival Denver

    The Air Force women's basketball team returns to action this Saturday, Nov. 16, with another home game against an in-state rival, hosting Denver in a 1:00 p.m. contest.

    A second-half rally fell short for the Falcons, who dropped a 71-60 decision to visiting Northern Colorado on Tuesday evening. Junior Jimi Blagowsky was the lone Air Force player to finish with double-digits in scoring, registering a career-high-tying 19 points. Meanwhile, senior Cherae Medina added nine points, including the Falcons' last six points of the game, and a team-leading five assists.

    Air Force comes into this weekend's game with an 0-2 overall record on the season, following its loss to Northern Colorado on Tuesday.

    Through the first two games of the season, junior Jimi Blagowsky is the Falcons' leading scorer with 13.0 points per game. Senior Cherae Medina is second on the team with 6.5 points per contest and a team-leading 3.5 assists per game, while sophomore Madeleine Philpot is Air Force's leading rebounder with 7.5 boards per contest.

    Denver enters Saturday's contest with an 0-2 record on the season after dropping a narrow 73-70 decision to visiting Wyoming on Tuesday evening.

    The Pioneers are led by Morgan Van Riper-Rose, who is currently averaging 11.0 points per game, while Kailey Edwards and Theresa Wirth each add 10.5 points per contest. The leading rebounder for Denver through the first two games of the season is Maiya Michel, with 7.5 boards per contest.

    Junior Jimi Blagowsky had one of the best offensive performances of her career versus Northern Colorado on Tuesday, tying a career high with 19 points. She also matched career highs in both field goals made (7) and attempted (13), as well as three-point field goals made (3).

    Through the first two games of the season, Blagowsky is averaging 13.0 points per game after averaging just 2.3 points per contest in her first two seasons.

    Through games of Nov. 14, Air Force ranks second in the Mountain West in three-point field goal percentage (.207).

    Individually, junior Jimi Blagowsky is tied for fifth in the league in three-point field goal percentage (.444) and tied for sixth in three-point field goals made per game (2.0), while freshman Kelly Lujan is tied for ninth in three-point field goal percentage (.429).

    Due to overscheduling by the University of San Francisco, the women's basketball game between Air Force and San Francisco, originally slated for Saturday, Nov. 23, in Clune Arena, has been cancelled.
