Falcons Host Exhibition Game Against UCCS

    The Air Force women's basketball team gears up for the 2009-10 season with an exhibition game against UCCS, this Friday, Nov. 6, beginning at 5 p.m. in Clune Arena. The game is open to the public and admission is free.

    Team Records:
    Air Force went 4-26 last season and 0-16 in Mountain West Conference play.
    UCCS went 13-15 last season and 10-9 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference West Division play.

    The Coaches:
    Air Force is coached by Ardie McInelly (Boise State, 1982), who is 54-174 entering her ninth season at the Academy and 131-236 in her 14th year overall as a head coach.
    UCCS is coached by Stephen Kirkham (Northern Colorado, 1981), who also happens to be the Athletic Director for the Mountain Lions. Kirkham enters his first as head coach for UCCS and is 300-158 overall as a head coach.

    Who's Back
    Air Force returns six letterwinners and three starters from last season. The Falcons' top returning scorer is junior guard Raimee Beck, who averaged 12.9 points per game and tied a Div. I era season record with 386 points. Air Force also returns senior Kathleen Schjodt (F), juniors Candice Chase (G) and Liz Dunsworth and sophomores Anna Gault (PG) and Jamela Satterfield (G). In addition sophomore Kira Gonzalez, who did not see game action as a freshman, also returns.

    Who's New
    Air Force welcomes nine freshmen to the team. Kelsey Berger (F), Bethany Gross (G),Katie Hilbig (F), Dymond James (F), Alicia Leipprandt (G), Megan Muñiz (G), Danielle Sorrera (G), Austyn Wilson (G) and Desiree Wilson (G) enter their first year at the Academy.

    Scouting the UCCS
    UCCS returns eight letterwinners and four starters from last season's team, that went 8-19. The Mountain Lions' top returning scorer is junior post player Mallory Lowe, who averaged 9.0 points per game last year.

    Last meeting
    Air Force and UCCS last met in 2005, a 68-56, Falcon win at the Academy. Four Falcons reached double-figures in scoring, led by Dawn Higginbotham's 16 points off the bench.

    Air Force in exhibitions
    Last year, Air Force defeated Adams State, 55-40, in its lone exhibition game last year. Air Force is 6-2 in their last eight exhibition games.

    Who's Next
    The Falcons open the regular season at the Islander Tip-off Tournament in Corpus Christi, Texas, Fri-Sat., Nov. 13-14. Air Force takes on tournament host Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Friday, with tipoff slated for 7:30 p.m. CST. The Falcons will face either Alabama or Tennessee Tech at 5 or 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
