    USAFA, Colo. -

Air Force head women’s basketball coach Andrea Williams would like to welcome the incoming Class of 2016, who are currently enrolled in basic cadet training. This year’s incoming freshman class features 12 players, including four direct entries and eight students who attended the Academy Prep School.

Among the direct entries in this year’s class is Missy Byrd, a product of Decatur, Ga. Byrd captured four state titles in high school, including three in basketball and one in lacrosse. “Missy is an athletic, bigger wing, something we’ve been looking for,” said Williams. “She’s a slashing scorer and can defend on the ball, which will help us with our press.”

Ashton Davis, a Boulder, Colo., native, has lifelong dreams of becoming a fighter pilot, but will also contribute Mountain West-level skills. “She’s a combo guard who can help us out at the point guard position if needed, and she can shoot the ball. She’s also a good on-ball defender, who can help in the press as well. Ashton comes from a winning program and has a tremendous attitude.”

One of the strongest players in the class is Madeleine Philpot, from Mobile, Ala. “Madeleine is an inside-out player; she can hit the three or just bang inside. She just finds ways to score,” said Williams.

Also a direct entry into this year’s class is Lindsey Stimeling, from Chesapeake, Va. At 6-3, Stimeling gives the Falcons a bigger, athletic post. “Lindsey will give us depth at the post position,” said Williams. “She’s a back to the basket player who can face-up in the post. She will definitely give us help with our offensive production.”

Meanwhile, the group of eight Prep School products brings a winning attitude to this year’s Falcon squad after putting together a successful season last year. “This is the first time we’ve brought an entire Prep School class up to the Academy. They will all give us athleticism and toughness, and they will definitely help bring our program to another level.”

“We’re very excited about our new class,” continued Williams. “Already they’ve faced their first test by in-processing during a difficult circumstance, and I’m impressed with the way they’ve handled the challenge. This year, we’ve added depth to every position, and that will breed competition at every spot. These players also have great scoring abilities and will help us take care of some of the offensive issues we’ve had.”
