USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women’s basketball has released its schedule for the 2017-18 season, announced today by head coach Chris Gobrecht. The schedule is highlighted by non-conference home contests against Army West Point, Colorado and Louisville. The Falcons have 15 home games, beginning Nov. 10 vs. Denver.
Nine of Air Force’s opponents played in the post-season, with Louisville being an NCAA Sweet 16 participant.
The Falcons open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 10, hosting Denver. Air Force hosts Eastern Washington on Nov. 14 for its next game, before a three-game road swing through SIUE (Nov 17), FIU (Nov. 19) and Navy (Nov. 22).
After a quick break over the Thanksgiving weekend, the Falcons are back in action hosting Colorado Christian on Nov. 29 and Army West Point on Dec. 2. Air Force closes out its road non-conference portion of the schedule with trips to Utah Valley (Dec. 7) and Weber State (Dec. 9). The non-conference slate concludes with Pac-12 foe Colorado on Dec. 15 and ACC opponent Louisville on Dec. 20.
The 18-game Mountain West portion of the schedule starts Dec. 28 and runs to March 2, culminating with the Mountain West Championship, which is March 5-9 in Las Vegas, Nev. The Falcons open with home games against New Mexico (Dec. 28) and Fresno State (Dec. 30).
Air Force will also host home conference games against San Jose State (Jan. 13), Colorado State (Jan. 17), Utah State (Jan. 24), San Diego State (Feb. 3), UNLV (Feb., 14), Boise State (Feb. 17) and a senior night game vs. Wyoming (Feb. 27). The Falcons’ final regular season game is at San Jose State on March 2.
“Our very young team is likely to be greatly challenged by this schedule, but I have faith in these players’ competitive spirits that will have them embracing and learning from such quality competition,” Air Force women’s basketball head coach Chris Gobrecht said. “We are really excited for the 2017-18 season to begin. This will be a talented, aggressive Air Force team that is sure to bring a high energy game to Clune Arena.”

vs. Denver - (Nov. 10, USAFA)
Air Force played at Denver last year, dropping a close 65-52 contest...the Falcons are 22-37 all-time vs. DU.
vs. Eastern Washington - (Nov. 14, USAFA)
Air Force was supposed to host EWU last season, but the game was canceled due to inclement weather that prevented Eastern Washington from traveling to Colorado...the Falcons lost to the Eagles in 2015...EWU won 19 games last season and participated in the Women’s Basketball Invitational for the postseason.
at SIUE - (Nov. 17, Edwardsville, IL)
SIUE participated in the Air Force Classic last year at the Academy, but did not play the Falcons...The Falcons lost the last contest to SIUE in 2014 in Edwardsville...The Falcons are 0-2 vs. SIUE with the first meeting coming in 2013 at the Academy.
at FIU - (Nov. 19, Miami, FL)
The FIU game will be a homecoming game for Air Force senior forward Dee Bennett, a Miami native and graduate of Miami Norland High School...Air Force is 1-0 all-time vs. FIU, winning the lone meeting in 1985.
at Navy - (Nov. 22, Annapolis, MD)
The Falcons are looking to snap a five game skid vs. the Midshipmen...Air Force is 3-10 all-time vs. Navy...the Falcons lost last year’s meeting at the Academy...Navy was a WNIT participant last season.
vs. Colorado Christian - (Nov. 29, USAFA)
The Falcons take on CCU for the first time since 2011...Air Force is 13-0 all-time vs. the Cougars...the Falcons began playing CCU in 1991.
vs. Army West Point - (Dec. 2, USAFA)
Air Force hosts the Black Knights for the first time since 2012...the Falcons have dropped four in a row to Army West Point, including last year’s tilt at West Point...the Falcons are 7-10 all-time vs. Army West Point...Air Force assistant coach Erin Mills-Reid was an assistant coach under Army West Point head coach Dave Magarity from 2009-14.
at Utah Valley - (Dec. 7, Orem, UT)
The Falcons defeated Utah Valley last season at the Air Force Classic...the Falcons play at Orem for the first time since 2014...the Falcons are 2-2 all-time vs. UVU.
at Weber State - (Dec. 9, Ogden, UT)
The Weber State game will be a homecoming game for senior guard Cortney Porter, who hails from Ogden and is a graduate of Bonneville High School...the Falcons lost at home to Weber State last season...Air Force is 3-5 all-time vs. the Wildcats.
vs. Colorado - (Dec. 15, USAFA)
Air Force renewed its rivalry with CU last year after not playing since 2002...the Falcons lost guard Sarah Pierce to injury for the season in last year’s loss in Boulder...CU was a WNIT participant in 2016-17...Air Force is 0-4 all-time vs. Colorado.
vs. Louisville - (Dec. 19, USAFA)
Air Force’s non-conference finale will be its toughest, as they take on NCAA Sweet-16 participant Louisville...rising sophomore Kyle Shook is a Colorado Springs native and was a McDonald’s All-American at Mesa Ridge High School...Shook and Air Force rising junior Venessannah Itugbu were teammates at Mesa Ridge in 2014, leading the team to a 28-0 undefeated season and Colorado Class 4A State Title for the schools’ first state title in any sport.
Mountain West Opponents
vs. New Mexico - (Dec. 28, USAFA & Feb. 10, Albuquerque, NM)
Air Force played New Mexico just once last year, hanging close in a tough loss in Albuquerque...the Falcons are looking to end an eight game skid against the Lobos, dating back to 2011...Mariah Forde, a rising-sophomore and Air Force’s leading scorer last season, is a native of Belen, N.M., just down the road from Albuquerque.
vs. Fresno State - (Dec. 30, USAFA & Jan. 20, Fresno, CA)
The Falcons are looking for its first-ever win over the Bulldogs in 11 tries...Air Force dropped both contests last season to Fresno State...Fresno State head coach Jamie White was the head coach at Northern Colorado for eight seasons from 2006-2014.
vs. Nevada - (Jan. 6, Reno, NV)
Air Force played Nevada to five and seven point losses last season...the Falcons are 4-12 all-time vs. Nevada...the Falcons will only play the Wolf Pack once this season...Nevada is under first-year head coach Amanda Levens, who replaced recently retired Jane Albright.
vs. UNLV - (Jan. 10, Las Vegas, NV & Feb. 14, USAFA)
Air Force played UNLV to close games twice last season, dropping games by four and 12 points...the Falcons are looking to down the Rebels for the first time since 2013...Air Force head coach Chris Gobrecht and UNLV head coach Kathy Olivier go back to their days in the then-Pac 10 when Gobrecht coached at Washington and USC and Olivier coached at UCLA...UNLV played in the WNIT last season.
vs. San Jose State - (Jan. 13, USAFA & March 2, San Jose, CA)
The Falcons dropped both contests to the Spartans last season...Air Force is 2-10 all-time vs. SJSU...the Spartans will be looking to replace Dezz Ramos, last year’s leading scorer in the MW by nearly eight points over the second-place scorer.
vs. Colorado State - (Jan. 17, USAFA & Feb. 7, Fort Collins, CO)
The Falcons hosted CSU for lone game last season...the Falcons are looking to turn tide on 11 straight setbacks to Rams...the two in-state rivals have played 47 times...CSU played in the WNIT last season.
vs. Utah State - (Jan. 24, USAFA & Feb. 24, Logan, UT)
Air Force went 1-2 vs. Utah State last season...the first loss was just by three points in Logan...Air Force won the home game 64-61 on a three-with three seconds left in the game...the Falcons were eliminated by USU from the MW Championship with a 46-40 setback...the Falcons are 2-8 all-time vs. Utah State...the Aggies participated in the postseason in the WBI.
vs. Boise State - (Jan. 27, Boise, ID & Feb. 17, USAFA)
The Falcons played to a close 10 point loss at home to Boise last year and dropped the regular season finale at Boise...the Falcons are looking to snap a seven game slide against the Broncos...Boise State played in the NCAA tournament last season.
vs. San Diego State - (Feb. 3, USAFA & Feb. 21, San Diego, CA)
The Falcons won at SDSU last season for its first Mountain West road win since 2007 and first at SDSU since 2005...Air Force split the two games last year...the teams have played each other 41 times.
vs. Wyoming - (Feb. 27, USAFA)
The Falcons host the Cowgirls for lone meeting on senior night...Air Force dropped both contests to Wyoming last season...the teams have played each other 51 times.
