USAFA, Colo. - The 2012-13 awardwinners for the Air Force women's basketball team were honored Friday evening as part of the team's annual banquet. Earning top honors was senior Alicia Leipprandt (Ubly, Mich.), who was selected by her teammates as the MVP for the 2012-13 season.
Leipprandt, who became just the second Falcon to earn third-team All-Mountain West honors, averaged 13.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest this season. Air Force's leading scorer in half of the Falcons' 30 games, Leipprandt closed out her career as the second-leading scorer in the program's Division I history with 1,247 points. Leipprandt, who was also the recipient of the Loudermilk-Chavez Leadership Award, also ranks in the Falcons' Division I record books in numerous other categories, including scoring average, assists, steals and rebounds.
Senior team captains Katie Hilbig (Castle Rock, Colo.) and Dymond James (Brambleton, Va.) were both recognized with additional awards. Hilbig was named the defensive player of the year after leading the team with 44 steals on the year and adding 209 rebounds, while also receiving the Iron Bolt Award, given to the player who demonstrates the greatest commitment to the team's strength & conditioning program. Meanwhile, James was honored as the team's leading rebounder for the third-straight season, recording a career-best 7.0 rebounds per contest.
Earning the award for top free-throw percentage was junior Cherae Medina (Denver, Colo.), who connected on 28-of-35 attempts from the foul line on the season, while freshman Missy Byrd (Decatur, Ga.) was recognized for having the top field goal percentage, making 42-of-92 shots (.457) from the field.
