Checking in with...Lindsey Lewis
Feb. 13, 2013
This season, members of the Air Force women's basketball team will share some of their experiences at the Academy, both on and off the court. This week, sophomore Lindsey Lewis talks about the team's progress through the Mountain West schedule.
When I think about basketball season, I think chaos! From early morning flights and missing class, the life of a student- athlete is pretty challenging. All you have to do is remember that it's totally worth it!
Early in conference we suffered a heartbreaking loss to Boise State by one point, but made a statement in California when we held our ground versus the #1 ranked teams in the Mountain West conference and put up a hard fight. Luckily we had some down time in San Diego and a few of us went to the world-renowned San Diego Zoo! Traveling with the team allows us to bond on and off the court and everyone always has a blast being away from the pressures of cadet life and all the demands required of us since we are preparing to be future officers in the military.
This past week we avenged our first conference loss versus Nevada and came out with our second win in conference! Our three seniors showed out with big numbers and even bigger plays throughout the game to help us seal the deal. With the players on the court getting the job done and the bench yelling out cheers and encouragement, it was a combined effort.
Every time I feel like maybe this lifestyle is too much and that I could have a lot more free time as a normal cadet, I just think about those crunch-time moments in the games that make it all worth it when we come out with a win. Life doesn't get any better than traveling with my best friends throughout the week to play the sport we all love. Lady Falcon basketball represents hard work but most of all we pride ourselves on never giving up. No matter what the score, we play until the final buzzer and hope for the best. With seven conference games left until the tournament, our team is playing the best we ever have! We play hard for each other because we know that it's our teammates who deserve our best effort every day in practice and every time we step on the court to match up against opponents. No matter what kind of day we are having, we know that once we step on that court, it's all about basketball until we step off. We're hoping to finish out conference strong and change Air Force history at the conference tournament in Las Vegas in March. I can't wait to see what's in store for us. GO LADY FALCONS!
