Womens Basketball Falls to UNLV, 42-73
USAF, Colo. The Air Force women's basketball team continued to struggle offensively, suffering a 42-73 loss to the UNLV Lady Rebels Saturday in a Mountain West conference game.
The Falcons played well, but couldn't get their shots to drop. The team ended the game with a .239 shooting percentage. Although they worked their offense for numerous open shots, the shots would not drop. The team opened the game with 17 consecutive three-point attempts of which just five dropped. In the second half, the shooting woes got worse for Air Force. The team had just four field goals in the half, three by freshman Amoy Jackson, who led the team with a career-high 14 points. UNLV took advantage of a distinct height advantage, scoring numerous points in the paint and down low. Six-foot-six Petra Glaser scored 11 points, while six-foot-two Linda Frohlich chipped in 11 points. The Lady Rebels shot 51 percent from the field, hitting 25 of 49 shots. Despite the height disadvantage, the Falcons did a solid job rebounding. They gave up just seven offensive boards, way below their average. Rozalyn Russ grabbed nine boards and Samantha Clifton added eight rebounds for the Falcons. The team also did a good job of protecting the ball. The Falcons, who entered the game averaging over 19 turnovers per game, had just 13 turnovers against the Lady Rebels. The loss drops the Falcons' record to 3-13 overall and 0-3 in the Mountain West. They will take to the road next week for games against Colorado State (Jan. 25) and Wyoming (Jan. 27).
