Air Force Hosts BYU in Conference Home Opener

    The Air Force women’s basketball team hosts its first Mountain West Conference game of the season on Saturday, Jan. 8, as it welcomes BYU to the Academy. The game is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. in Clune Arena.

    Last Season: BYU defeated Air Force, 77-46, in Provo on Jan. 13, while capturing a 78-53 victory at the Academy on Feb. 13.

    Promotions:

            • Country and Western Day - Prizes will be awarded for “best dressed” in the Country and Western theme. Line dancing lessons will also be given on the concourse half an hour prior to tip-off.

     

     

    Last Time Out...

    The Falcons struggled offensively in their MWC opener on Wednesday night, falling to Utah, 77-40, in Salt Lake City.

     

    Sophomore Alicia Leipprandt was the Falcons’ lone scorer in double figures with 14 points, while Katie Hilbig added seven points.

     

     

    Scouting the Falcons...

    Air Force enters this weekend’s game with a 5-9 overall record and 0-1 mark in the Mountain West Conference after dropping its conference opener to Utah on Wednesday evening.

     

    Senior Raimee Beck is the Falcons’ leading scorer with 12.7 points per game, while sophomore Kelsey Berger (10.1 ppg) is also averaging in double figures scoring. Meanwhile, sophomore Dymond James is Air Force’s leading rebounder with 7.6 boards per contest.

     

     

    Scouting the Cougars...

    BYU enters Saturday’s contest with a 9-6 overall mark and 1-0 record in the MWC. The Cougars posted a 75-64 victory over UNLV to open the conference season on Wednesday.

     

    Mindy Bonham leads BYU with 12.3 points per game, while Coriann Fraughton adds 11.1 points per contest and a team-best 6.7 rebounds per game.

    Breaking the Streak...

    Against BYU, Air Force will attempt to break its 38-game conference losing streak (including tournament contests).

     

    The Falcons’ last conference victory came against the Cougars, as Air Force defeated BYU, 54-40, at the Academy on March 3, 2008.

     

     

    Season-Low shooting...

    Air Force, which entered its game against Utah with a season field goal percentage of .426, shot a season-low 25.5 percent against the Utes. The Falcons scored just 40 points in the game, marking the first time all season that Air Force has scored below 50 points.
