JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Playing its final non-conference contest of the season, the Air Force women's basketball team fell to Eastern Illinois, 76-44, Saturday afternoon at the Hampton Inn Oceanfront Holiday Classic, hosted by North Florida.
Junior Jimi Blagowsky (Edmond, Okla.) was the lone Air Force player to score in double figures, finishing with 16 points. Meanwhile, Sabina Oroszova and Katlyn Payne each tallied 22 points for the Panthers, with Oroszova added a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Panthers (5-6) scored seven of their 10 first-half field goals from beyond the arc to take a 36-26 advantage at the half. Eastern Illinois continued to pull away after the break, shooting 55.2 percent from the field in the second half, while the Falcons struggled offensively, shooting just over 23 percent in the final stanza. Additionally, the Panthers outrebounded Air Force, 41-30, for the game, including a 25-11 edge in the second half.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Blagowsky was named to the Hampton Inn Oceanfront Holiday Classic all-tournament team. Blagowsky, who was also the Falcons' leading scorer in Friday's game versus North Florida, was joined on the all-tournament team by Payne, North Florida's Destinee Smith and Ki Connor and Georgia Southern's Anna Marie Claire. Meanwhile, Oroszova was named the tournament MVP.
With the non-conference slate under wraps, the Falcons (1-9) will open Mountain West play on Wednesday, Jan. 1, when they head to Logan, Utah, to face league newcomer Utah State at 7:00 p.m.
