Air Force Falls to UNF in Hampton Inn Oceanfront Holiday Classic
Dec. 20, 2013
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - In its first game of the Hampton Inn Oceanfront Holiday Classic, the Air Force women's basketball team dropped a 61-40 decision to host North Florida, Friday afternoon at UNF Arena.
The Ospreys used a 13-0 first-half run to take an 18-3 lead with 13:18 to play but a three-pointer by freshman Kelly Lujan (Reno, Nev.) sparked Air Force's own run, as the Falcons scored 11 straight points to cut the margin to four. However, UNF, which scored 18 of its first-half points from beyond the arc, knocked down three three-pointers over the final four and a half minutes of the first half to earn a 29-17 advantage at the break.
The Falcons started the second half on a 10-3 run to cut the margin to five points, but were unable to get any closer than five points as UNF continued to pull away.
North Florida shot nearly 58 percent from long range for the game, converting on 11-of-19 three-point field goal attempts. Leading the way for the Ospreys was Destinee Smith, who finished with 19 points and was a perfect 5-of-5 from beyond the arc, while Bailey Florin and Ki Conner added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Falcons close out the weekend tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. (ET), when they face Eastern Illinois.
