March 4, 2014
USAFA, Colo. - A late second-half rally fell short, as the Air Force women's basketball team fell to New Mexico, 76-62, Tuesday evening in Clune Arena.
Jimi Blagowsky (Jr., Edmond, Okla.) registered a game-high 20 points to lead the Falcons, while Missy Byrd (So., Decatur, Ga.) added 14 points. Also scoring in double figures for Air Force was senior Camille Thompson (McDonough, Ga.), who finished with 11 points and five assists in her final game in Clune Arena.
The Falcons (1-26, 0-17) trailed by as many as 19 points with nine minutes remaining in the second half, but Air Force battled back, cutting the margin to 67-58 at the 3:16 mark with a three-point play by Byrd. However, New Mexico pushed its advantage back into double figures by taking the ball inside the paint and getting to the foul line.
Air Force held a lead in the first two minutes of the game, with Thompson scoring the Falcons' first four points, but the Lobos went on an 8-0 run to take the advantage. The contest was tied twice more in the opening half, but New Mexico went into the locker room with a 32-28 lead.
The Lobos dominated in the paint, scoring 52 of their points on the inside. New Mexico (10-18, 5-12) also had a 41-26 advantage on the boards, and knocked down 18-of-24 free throws for the game.
