LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Plagued by turnovers, the Air Force women's basketball team dropped an 87-43 decision to UNLV Saturday at Cox Pavilion.
Jimi Blagowsky (Jr., Edmond, Okla.) and Missy Byrd (So., Decatur, Ga.) each registered 12 points to lead the Falcons. Meanwhile, Alana Cesarz paced the Lady Rebels, finishing with a game-high 16 points.
UNLV (11-17, 8-8) got out to a strong start, leading 13-2 before the Falcons knocked down five straight field goal attempts to cut the margin to 15-12. However, the Lady Rebels were able to take advantage of Air Force's 12 first-half turnovers, sparked by a 9-0 run to push the margin back to double digits, before taking a 44-26 lead at the intermission.
Air Force (1-25, 0-16) committed 28 turnovers in the game, allowing UNLV to score 31 points off turnovers. The Lady Rebels also had a significant edge on the boards, outrebounding the Falcons, 49-30, and were 21-of-29 from the charity stripe, while Air Force was just 4-of-10 from the line.
The Falcons close out their home slate this Tuesday, March 4, when they host New Mexico in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
