USAFA, Colo. - Sophomore Missy Byrd (Decatur, Ga.) scored a career-high 17 points, but the Air Force women's basketball team was unable to get past Fresno State, dropping a 77-43 contest to the visiting Bulldogs Wednesday evening in Clune Arena.
Byrd, who was the only Falcon to score in double figures, also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, while Cherae Medina (Sr., Denver, Colo.) added seven points and six assists.
Meanwhile, four different players scored in double figures for Fresno State, led by Taylor Thompson with 18 points and Alex Sheedy with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Air Force (1-12, 0-3) never led against Fresno State, which used a 21-4 run midway through the first half to pull away for a 47-24 advantage at the intermission. After the break, the Falcons shot just 21.4 percent from the field, helping Fresno State extend its lead to 43 points with five minutes remaining.
The Bulldogs (9-5, 3-0) took advantage of the Falcons' miscues, scoring 27 points off Air Force's 23 turnovers. Fresno State also outscored Air Force in the paint, 40-24. The Falcons shot just 50 percent (9-of-18) from the charity stripe and knocked down just two of their 15 three-point field goal attempts.
