Falcons Set To Compete At Midlands Invitational
The Air Force wrestling team returns to action this week as five grapplers will represent the Falcons at the Midlands Invitational in Evanston, Ill. The event, hosted by Northwestern, is in its 42nd incarnation and will run Dec. 29-30.
Competing for Air Force at the Midlands will be seniors Josh Peterson (Comstock, Wis.) and Luke Lefever (La Crosse, Wis.) and juniors Brandon Strong (Albuquerque, N.M.), Beau Tresemer (Norman, Okla.) and Brenden McLean (Grants Pass, Ore.).
Peterson, one of three captains for the Falcons this year, enters this week's tournament with a 7-6 record at 149 pounds. In his first weekend of the 2004-05 season, Peterson captured a first-place finish at Wyoming's Cowboy Open. Meanwhile, fellow captain Lefever, a 184-pounder, is 8-5 on the season and is coming off a second-place showing at the Fort Hays Open.
Strong, a 2004 NCAA competitor, brings a 12-6 record into this year's Midlands Invitational. Strong, who has five pins to his name this season, owns a fastest fall of 0:21 this season to lead the team. Strong came in second at the Oklahoma Open and third at the Cowboy Open, while finishing 4-2 at the prestigious Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
Tresemer will compete for the Falcons at 165 pounds, where he holds a 12-7 mark and has recorded six falls. Meanwhile, McLean, a second-place finisher at the Oklahoma Open, enters the meet with record of 8-8, will wrestle at 197 pounds.
