Air Force In Action At Oklahoma Open


    The Air Force wrestling team heads to Norman, Okla., Saturday, Nov. 27, for the 34-annual Oklahoma Open. The tournament, which includes No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 10 Missouri, Central Oklahoma and host Oklahoma, is set to begin at 9:00 a.m., and will take place at the Howard McCasland Field House.
    Through the first two weekends of competition, junior Matt Benza (Tamaqua, Pa.)7-3 overall, at leads the Falcons with a pair of top-five finishes in the Open meets at 133 pounds. Freshman heavyweight Trey McLean (Grants Pass, Ore.) has been impressive in the 20-and-Under divisions, finishing fourth at both the season-opening Cowboy Open and last weekend's Kaufman-Brand Open, while fellow rookie Steven Ratley (Arlington,Va.) was third at the Cowboy Open and fifth at the Kaufman-Brand Open at 165 pounds.
    Sophomore Bridger Lord (Missoula, Mont.) holds Air Force's best record, with a 10-3 ledger after the first two tournaments. Meanwhile, Ratley and sophomore Matt Crippes (Cloverdale, Calif.) pace the team in number of pins with six each.
    Following this weekend's tournament, the Falcons return to action Dec. 3-4 at the prestigious Las Vegas Invitational. In addition, several of Air Force's second-teamers will head to the Fort Hays State Open on Dec. 4.
