Air Force Heads to UNK Holiday Inn Open

    The Air Force wrestling team is back in action this weekend, Nov. 23, at the UNK Holiday Inn Open, hosted by Nebraska-Kearney. Live results for the tournament will be available at

    The Falcons swept their competition at the Augustana Duals last Friday, defeating Chadron State (28-6), Morningside College (37-3) and host Augustana (30-13).

    Eight Falcons won their bouts versus Chadron State, led by sophomore Konner Witt, who scored a major decision at 174 pounds. Senior Josh Kreimier was awarded a forfeit win, while David Walker (141), Natrelle Demison (149), Jesse Stafford (165), Scott Reilly (184), Greg Isley (197) and Marcus Malecek (HWT) all won decisions.

    Against Morningside, Air Force won nine of its 10 matches, with Carter McElhany (133), Stafford and Witt all earning falls. Demison added a major decision, while Cassidy Oshiro (125), Walker, Connor Hedash (157), Dan Barringer (184) and Parker Hines (197) all scored decisions.

    In the final dual of the day, the Falcons earned wins in six of their bouts, led by falls from Greg Rinker (133), Stafford and Witt. Walker and Isley both earned decisions, while Malecek was awarded a forfeit victory at 285.

    Air Force, which currently holds a 3-2 record on the year, is slated to send more than 30 wrestlers to this weekend's tournament in Kearney.

    Among the leaders expected to compete this weekend is sophomore Josh Martinez, currently ranked 10th in the nation at 125 pounds with a 2-0 record on the season. Additionally, freshman Anthony McHugh has posted a team-leading 11 victories on the season, while Dan Barringer, Connor Hedash, David Walker and Konner Witt have each registered eight wins.

    The Falcons have a pair of wrestlers currently ranked by numerous wrestling publications. Sophomore Josh Martinez, a 2013 NCAA qualifier and reigning WWC Freshman of the Year, is currently ranked 10th at 125 pounds by InterMat, while he is ranked eighth by Amateur Wrestling News and, and ninth by W.I.N. Magazine and DI College Wrestling.

    Meanwhile, senior Josh Kreimier, a returning two-time NCAA qualifier, is rated 16th in the nation at 157 pounds by InterMat. He is also rated 12th by W.I.N. Magazine, 14th by Amateur Wrestling News, 16th by and 19th by DI College Wrestling.

    The Falcons will have a short break before returning to action Dec. 6-7, at the annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Air Force will also send another group of wrestlers to compete at the FHSU-Bob Smith Open, being held in Hays, Kan., on Dec. 7.
