Three Falcons Head to University World Team Trials
Aug. 16, 2012
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - This weekend, three current members of the Air Force wrestling team will compete at the 2012 University World Team Trials, being held Aug. 17-18 at Palmer High School in Colorado Springs. Senior Cole VonOhlen (Jackson, Minn.), junior Josh Kreimier (Fort Collins, Colo.) and sophomore Jesse Stafford (Loomis, Calif.) will each compete for the opportunity to take part in the University World Championships.
VonOhlen, the Falcons' team captain and a three-time NCAA qualifier, will compete in the freestyle division at 66kg, after taking third place at the University Nationals in June. Meanwhile, Kreimier, a 2012 NCAA qualifier, and Stafford, who spent the last year in Mongolia as an intern with Athletes in Action, each petitioned for a spot at this year's University World Team Trials and will both compete in the freestyle division at 74kg.
The World Team Trials will consist of two parts, the challenge tournament and the final trials. Double elimination line bracketing will be used to determine the mini tournament champion, who will then compete against the University National Champion or highest place finisher from the U.S. Open in a best two out of three match series. Winners at the trials will move on to compete in the 2012 University World Championships held in Kuortane, Finland, Oct. 2-7.
