Twelve Falcons Earn WWC Academic Honors

    OREM, Utah - Air Force wrestler Jared Erickson has been named to the Western Wrestling Conference All-Academic Team, as announced by the league on Wednesday. Meanwhile, 11 other Falcons were named to the Coaches' Honor Roll for the 2011-12 season.

    This year's WWC academic awards will honor a total of 61 student-athletes from the seven conference schools. Utah Valley had the most wrestlers on the two combined teams with a total of 15, while Air Force was next with 12 honorees.

    To qualify for the All-Academic team, student-athletes had to secure a minimum 3.20 grade point average, be a starter or key reserve and be a sophomore or higher in academic standing. This year's WWC All-Academic squad honors 14 student-athletes. Meanwhile, the Coaches' Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who have maintained a 3.0 grade point average. This year's Coaches' Honor Roll is comprised of 47 WWC student-athletes.

    Erickson, a rising senior from Newton, Utah, earned the second WWC All-Academic honor of his career after being named to the Coaches' Honor Roll as a freshman. The Falcons' starting heavyweight for the past two seasons currently holds a 3.57 GPA as a civil engineering major.

    Meanwhile, earning spots on the Coaches' Honor Roll for Air Force were Jack Carda (Fr., Kimball, S.D.), Cody Hancock (Fr., Wrightwood, Calif.), Vance Hawk (So., Ridgway, Colo.), Devin Hightower (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Dylan Hyder (Fr., Yelm, Wash.), Trevor Moore (Fr., Guam), Jason Mossing (Fr., Sylvania, Ohio), Brandon Mueller (Jr., Greenleaf, Wis.), Daniel Nissen (So., Denver, Colo.), Mengyuan Qiu (Sr., Glendale, Ariz.) and Garrett Wells (Fr., Corvallis, Ore.). Mueller, a rising senior, holds the Falcons' highest GPA, with a 3.72 grade point average as a physics major.



    The Western Wrestling Conference is comprised of seven schools including the Air Force Academy, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, Utah Valley State and Wyoming.
