Sixteen Falcons Earn WWC Academic Honors

OREM, Utah - Three Air Force wrestlers have been named to the Western Wrestling Conference All-Academic Team, as announced by the league today. Meanwhile, 13 other Falcons were named to the Coaches' Honor Roll for the 2010-11 season. This year's WWC academic awards will honor a total of 71 student-athletes from the seven conference schools. For the third-straight season, Air Force has the most academic honorees of any conference institution. To qualify for the All-Academic team, student-athletes had to secure a minimum 3.20 grade point average, be a starter or key reserve and be a sophomore or higher in academic standing. This year's WWC All-Academic squad honors 18 student-athletes. Meanwhile, the Coaches' Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who have maintained a 3.0 grade point average. This year's Coaches' Honor Roll is comprised of 53 WWC student-athletes. Named to the WWC All-Academic Team for Air Force were seniors Neil Delaney (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Kazden Ikehara (Mililani, Hawaii) and sophomore Jared Erickson (Newton, Utah). Delaney, a two-year starter at 197 pounds, received the third WWC All-Academic nod of his career. The systems engineering management major graduated last week with a 3.42 GPA. Ikehara, a starter at 184 pounds this season, earns his first WWC All-Academic honor after being named to the Coaches' Honor Roll for the past two seasons. Also a systems engineering management major, Ikehara graduated last week with a 3.23 GPA. Meanwhile, starting heavyweight Erickson, a Coaches' Honor Roll selection last season, currently holds a 3.60 GPA in civil engineering. In addition, earning spots on the Coaches' Honor Roll for Air Force were Dan Barringer (Fr., Monument, Colo.), Daniel Baucke (Fr., Memphis, Tenn.), Caleb Egli (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Evan Gros (Fr., Lake Orion, Mich.), Vance Hawk (Fr., Ridgway, Colo.), Devin Hightower (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Josh Larson (Sr., Windsor, Colo.), Colby Kluesner (Fr., Denver, Colo.), Brandon Mueller (So., Greenleaf, Wis.), Daniel Nissen (So., Denver, Colo.), Max Piazza (Fr., St. Louis, Mo.), Mengyuan Qiu (Jr., Glendale, Ariz.) and Jesse Stafford (Fr., Loomis, Calif.).
The Western Wrestling Conference is comprised of seven schools including the Air Force Academy, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, Utah Valley State and Wyoming.
