Five Falcons Earn All-America Honors at ASICS University Nationals

    AKRON, Ohio - Eleven Air Force wrestlers competed at the ASICS University Nationals in Akron, Ohio, this past weekend, April 21-23, with five Falcons earning All-America honors.

    During Thursday's Greco-Roman competition, all five of Air Force's participants claimed All-America honors, led by freshman Jesse Stafford (Loomis, Calif), with a third-place finish at 74 kg. Jarret Hoeppner (Fr., Apple Valley, Minn.) took fifth place at the 79 kg weight class, while sophomores Gabe Martinez (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Josh Mohr (Pewaukee, Wis.) and Jared Erickson (Newton, Utah) took seventh place in the 70 kg, 96 kg and 120 kg weight classes, respectively.

    In the freestyle competition, freshman Josh Kreimier (Fort Collins, Colo.) was Air Force's top performer, advancing to the quarterfinals at 70kg, finishing the weekend with a 3-2 record.

    Meanwhile, the Falcons also had five wrestlers earn All-America honors in the Greco-Roman competition at the FILA Junior Nationals held last month in Cleveland, Ohio. Stafford and Dan Barringer (Fr., Monument, Colo.) captured fifth place in the 70 kg and 79 kg weight classes, respectively, while Greg Rinker (Fr., Northampton, Pa.) placed sixth at 60 kg. In addition, Chris Morales (Fr., Rio Rancho, N.M.) and Devin Hightower (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) each earned seventh place finishes, wrestling at 79 kg and 84 kg, respectively.
