Jesse Stafford Qualifies for U.S. World Team Trials

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - With a seventh-place finish at the ASICS/Las Vegas Senior U.S. Open Wrestling Championships over the weekend, junior Jesse Stafford (Loomis, Calif.) has earned a chance to compete in the U.S. World Team Trials, which will be held May 31-June 1 in Madison, Wis.
Stafford, competing at 74 kg in the freestyle division, scored a technical fall over Connor Keating in the seventh-place match to capture All-America honors and clinch his spot in the World Team Trials.
Several other Falcons also competed over the weekend in the FILA Junior National Championships, where two more Air Force wrestlers earned All-America honors.
Freshman Anthony McHugh (Lewis Center, Ohio) placed fourth at 63 kg in the freestyle division of the FILA Junior National Championships and sixth in the Greco-Roman division to earn a pair of All-America accolades. Meanwhile, Parker Hines (Fr., Ellsworth, Wis.) placed sixth at 63 kg in the Greco-Roman division and seventh in the freestyle division to capture All-America honors.
Also finishing in the top eight at the FILA Junior National Championships was freshman Jerry McGinty (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who placed eighth at 70 kg in the Greco-Roman division.
