Three Falcons Earn All-America Honors at ASICS University Nationals

AKRON, Ohio - Seven Air Force wrestlers competed at the ASICS University Nationals in Akron, Ohio, this past weekend, April 9-11, with three Falcons earning All-America honors. Juniors Joseph Stafford (Loomis, Calif.) and Derek Gillespie (Chesapeake, Va.) were named All-Americans in the Greco-Roman division, while Neil Delaney (Jr., Grand Rapids, Mich.) earned All-America accolades in the freestyle division.
During Friday's Greco-Roman competition, Stafford claimed a fourth-place finish in the 79 kg weight class, compiling a 3-2 record. Meanwhile, Gillespie also posted a 3-2 mark on Friday to take fifth place at 63 kg.
In the freestyle competition, Delaney went undefeated on the opening day of action, winning three straight matches to advance to the quarterfinals. After posting a victory in his quarterfinal match on Sunday morning, Delaney dropped his semifinal match before placing sixth overall at 96 kg.
By virtue of their top-seven finishes over the weekend, Stafford, Gillespie and Delaney all qualified to participate in the University World Team Trials, being held in Colorado Springs, May 28-29.
