Three Wrestlers Qualify for NCAA Championships


    LARAMIE, Wy. -- Air Force finished in fourth place with 54 total points at the West Regional tournament, and three Air Force wrestlers qualified for the NCAA tournament, to be held March 15-17 in Iowa City, Iowa.

    Junior Scott Frohardt (149 lbs.) qualified for the NCAA tournament for the third straight year. Frohardt defeated Wyoming's Mark Hamrick 6-1 in the championship bout at the West Regionals. Frohardt was the only first-place winner in the tournament.

    Kevin Hoy grabbed third place at heavyweight, earning an at-large bid to the NCAAs. Hoy has been ranked as high as 17th in the nation this season.

    Timothy Huxel (157 lbs.) also earned an at-large berth, after winning 6-4 in the true second-place match over Levi Prevost (Wyoming). Huxel was seeded fourth at Regionals, but defeated the second, third and fifth seeds to qualify for the NCAA tournament.

    Sam Sherertz had a solid season and a strong tournament and will be an alternate at the 184-pound weight class. Sherertz lost to the number one seed, but won two matches to win second place at his weight class.
