Air Force Wraps Up Dual Slate with Two WWC Matches

    The Air Force wrestling team closes out its dual slate this week with a pair of Western Wrestling Conference matches, facing 22nd-ranked Wyoming in Cheyenne, Wyo., on Thursday, Feb. 21, before hosting Northern Colorado on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2:00 p.m.

    LAST TIME OUT...
    The Falcons won just three individual matches in a 23-9 loss to conference foe Utah Valley on Saturday evening. Earning decisions for the Falcons were sophomore Dylan Hyder (133) and juniors Josh Kreimier (157) and Devin Hightower (184).

    SCOUTING THE FALCONS...
    Air Force, which holds a 10-3 dual mark and 1-2 ledger in the Western Wrestling Conference, is currently ranked 24th in the latest InterMat poll. The Falcons have two wrestlers who are listed in InterMat's individual rankings, with senior Cole VonOhlen (22-2) currently rated third at 149 pounds, while freshman Josh Martinez (25-7) is ranked 10th at 125 pounds.

    SCOUTING THE COWBOYS...
    Wyoming, ranked 22nd in this week's USA Today/NWCA/AWN coaches' poll, enters Thursday's dual with an 8-6 overall dual record and 3-1 mark in the WWC. The Cowboys are coming off a pair of losses to Purdue and Maryland at the NWCA National Duals last weekend. Three Cowboys are currently ranked by InterMat, led by senior Alfonso Hernandez, who is rated fourth at 197 pounds. Sophomore Andy McCulley is ranked 13th at 157 pounds, while classmate Tyler Cox is ranked 19th at 125 pounds.

    SCOUTING THE BEARS...
    Northern Colorado currently holds a 1-9 overall dual record and 0-4 mark in the WWC. The Bears were last in action on Feb. 10, dropping a 36-8 decision to North Dakota State. Leading the way for Northern Colorado is heavyweight Henry Chirino, who has compiled a 22-9 overall record and 8-2 dual mark on the season.

    SAYING GOODBYE TO THE SENIORS...
    Prior to the beginning of Sunday's dual versus Northern Colorado, the Air Force wrestling program will honor its senior class. The Falcons' class of 2013 includes Logan Burch, Jared Erickson, Clay Gable, Steven Joseph, Rafael Magana, Gabe Martinez, Josh Mohr, Brandon Mueller, Daniel Nissen, Chris Velez and senior captain Cole VonOhlen, along with team managers Brooke Byerley and Randy Pence.

    IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS...
    This week, Air Force is tied for 24th in the InterMat team rankings. Meanwhile, the Falcons are also rated 24th by WrestlingReport.com and 26th in W.I.N. Magazine's Tournament Power Index.

    Individually, Air Force currently has three wrestlers ranked by various wrestling publications. Senior captain Cole VonOhlen, a returning three-time NCAA qualifier, is rated third in the nation at 149 pounds by InterMat, while he is also ranked third by Amateur Wrestling News, WrestlingReport.com and DI College Wrestling, and fourth by W.I.N. Magazine.

    Freshman Josh Martinez is currently ranked 10th in the InterMat rankings at 125 pounds. He is also ranked 10th by W.I.N. Magazine and WrestlingReport.com and 11th by Amateur Wrestling News and DI College Wrestling.

    Also in the individual rankings is junior Josh Kreimier, who is rated 16th by Amateur Wrestling News and 20th by W.I.N. Magazine, WrestlingReport.com and DI College Wrestling.
