Air Force Prepares for Busy Weekend

The Air Force wrestling team returns to action this week with three duals, including a pair of conference match-ups. First, the Falcons travel to Orem, Utah, to take on Utah Valley on Friday, Feb. 11 at 4:00 p.m.
Air Force wraps up the weekend with a pair of home duals, hosting Northern Iowa and New Mexico Highlands on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 and 4:00, respectively.

Last Time Out...
The Falcons dropped a 32-12 decision on the road to No. 25 Wyoming last week, before finishing fourth at the 17th-annual All-Academy Championships.
Meanwhile, senior Derek Gillespie (133) was Air Force’s top performer at the All-Academy Championships, finishing as the runner-up in his weight class. Seven other Falcons were also placewinners, including VonOhlen, Josh Kreimier (149) and Neil Delaney (197), who each placed third.

Air Force enters this week with a 10-3 overall dual record and 2-1 mark in the Western Wrestling Conference.
The Falcons led by sophomore Cole VonOhlen, currently ranked 11th in the nation at 141 pounds by Intermat. VonOhlen has posted a 35-7 overall record on the year and 12-1 dual mark. Freshman Josh Kreimier (149) is second on the team with 23 victories, while junior Alec Williams (157) has also reached the 20-win threshold with 22 wins on the season.
Scouting the Wolverines...
Utah Valley enters this weekend’s dual with a 3-3 overall ledger and 1-1 mark in the WWC. The Wolverines are coming off a 32-6 loss to ninth-ranked Boise State.
The Wolverines feature a pair of wrestlers who are ranked in the latest Intermat poll. Senior Ben Kjar is rated 13th at 125 pounds with a 20-4 overall record, while junior Flint Ray is ranked 13th at 133 pounds with a 16-2 mark.
Scouting the Panthers...
Northern Iowa currently holds an 8-9 overall record on the year and a 2-0 mark in the WWC. The Panthers, who dropped a 21-20 decision to No. 15 Iowa State in their last contest, will face Northern Colorado and Cal State Bakersfield on Friday evening.
A pair of UNI wrestlers are currently ranked in the latest Intermat poll, led by redshirt freshman Ryan Loder, ranked seventh at 184 pounds. Meanwhile, sophomore David Bonin is rated 19th at 157 pounds.

New Mexico Highlands enters this weekend’s dual with an 0-7 overall record. Leading the Cowboys is Trey Saxon, who has a team-best seven wins on the year.

Sophomore Cole VonOhlen, the Falcons’ lone returning NCAA qualifier, is currently ranked 11th in the nation at 141 pounds in the latest Intermat poll. In addition, VonOhlen is rated 10th by Amateur Wrestling News D1 College Wrestling, The Open Mat and WrestlingReport.com, and 12th by WIN Magazine.
The Falcons close out the regular season next week, Feb. 18, when they host Northern Colorado in a Western Wrestling Conference match-up.
